Great Race Day 9 - Abilene Texas to Clovis, New Mexico

Normally all the speedo runs when you double check you speedo with the speedo of the rallymaster, John Classen is down the freeway for the first 30 minutes at 50 mph. Today he changed it to 55 mph. It caught a bunch of folks too! Not me! I woke up felling good and convinced we were to have a good LOW score today.
Cameron and Greg started about 2 minutes late but apparently got close to their right time as they got on course. We started on time and rallied westward doing a few long sections of 55 mph. You might not realize it, but at 55 mph…you still lose a few seconds per hour so it is necessary to speed yourself up a coupla seconds. The way you do that is like this: If your normal speed is 50 mph then you need to increase your speed by 10 percent and do that 10 up speed for the count of 10 seconds. That moves you up 1 second. Got it?
We had a Pit at Sweetwater Texas at the courthouse square. The folks in the small towns are really wonderful to see and interact with.
We had lunch in the Dora Roberts Community Center in Big Spring,Texas. Good barbeque. My new friend.
We had a pit stop in Lubbock, Texas which is the home of Buddy Holly. I saw a couple of my HAMB buddy’s. We took a picture which the said they would post on the HAMB.
The afternoon was exciting because every single time we turned, we turned toward a very ominous storm. Well, we finally caught up w it. 50 mile an hour winds with hail (it was hell!) Blowing sideways and rain so hard we could not see at all! We pulled over and hunkered down to ride out the storm with the idea of turning in a time delay. Problem is Theresa accidentally hit her stop watch to turn it off. Well, we hacked. And…hacked poorly.
We got into Clovis to a great reception. We were wet as a drowned rat.
Hopefully a better day tomorrow.
