Great Race Day 4 - Nashville to Germantown

We left Nashville early Tuesday morning with a fresh attitude, hopeful that our “wrong turn gremlins” were gone for good. We looked forward to some great landscape in middle and west Tennessee too. You remember what landscape I see??!!! The dial of that speedo! That’s all! I see the road out of the corners of my eyes. Our “calibration” run was about 30 minutes headed south on Interstate 65 toward Franklin Tn. We corrected according to our factor and started the course on time.
Mike Goodman had a special guest driver in Double Exposure. Stacy David of GearzTV piloted our bare metal deuce with Honest Mike doing the navigating. I suppose you will see them sometime on ESPN on Stacy’s show.
One of the headaches when we are on the clock is farm tractors, construction and trains. During the first 30 minutes of the first leg of the day, we came around a curve at 45 only to see a tractor sideways in the road and a car (not a Great Racer) in the ditch upside down. Now I like tractors but this one really got on my nerves. We figured our time loss and made up all of it but 10 seconds before a check point so we had to turn in a time delay.

We had a great pit stop in Bolivar, Tennessee (pronounced Ball e ver). Theresa conferred with Oarta (pronounced like a W) Wells about some maneuvers about the time I stepped up for a funny photo op. Two good lookin’ girls! Oarta’s husband Thom said she was gettin’ serious n orderin’ him to turn here, do that n stuff. Man I relate to that too!
Lunch stop was in Savannah Tennessee. I figure it is only about four hours from Chatt town cause I found a store there with lots of goodies I gotta go back for.
We about ran over a big tractor pulling a double hay rake on the course after lunch. I musta scared that poor farmer to death! Funny thing is that we had to make up time on that leg and got an Ace!
Theresa and I came in 13th and got a 19.21 seconds for the day. We sure started off the race this year in the outhouse, but we are working our way up to the penthouse! At the end of day three, we were in 32nd place. After today, we moved up to 26. With all of our wrong turns the first two days…we started this deal at the bottom of the list! Remember…outhouse to penthouse here we come!
We were received in Germantown by our best buddies Bobby Hadsky (GR Grand Champion) wife Kitty and family. Bobby loved on Theresa and dumped a bottle of water on me in the finish line. Get back out here w us Hadsky!
My SEMA friends, Ron Coleman, Scooter Brothers and Brian Reece were at the Germantown reception. They are good guys n good friends. Scooter came out to see us the last time we came thru Memphis a coupla years ago. Thanks guys!

Greg Cunningham and Cameron Coker ended up 35th today. They seem to be workin some Great Race Gremlins out too. Greg’s parents came from Louisville to Chattanooga and followed us all the way to Germantown. Sweet folks. Guess that’s why we like Greg so much. Great young man.
From the road ( in the cockpit of a Shafer 8 with my sweetie!),
