The City of Concord, NC is absolutely amazing! Those guys really got the people out on Main Street for the start of the 25th annual Great American Race! We left our host hotel starting at 9 AM and got to the Start Venue to see the multitudes of people!
A few of our SEMA friends stopped by to see us off. My best buddy Wade Kawasaki was still in town from SEMA budget meetings, and of course SEMA Chairman Elect Jim Cozzie, his wife Kathy and young son Logan were there too! We enjoyed seeing Theresa’s brother Mark Mondl, his wife Frieda, her sister Vonda and family. I also had a surprise visit from Mark and Karen Pierson from Fresno, California now residents of Charlotte.

We left the venue with great fanfair and trekked back to Interstate 85 South for a full hour speedometer check. A man can get really tired of looking at 50 mph on the speedo.
We got started on the course and had a quick checkpoint just a few minutes into the course.
First screw up. Missed a dang turn…figured it out quickly but had a check point. We were both really bummed. We finished the day with three 03 second legs and a 1:50 leg for a total of a 1:40 total for the day. The scoring system is really different this year. Now its kinda like NASCAR…you get points for different places, for Aces, and so on. We didn’t get a very good score today obviously. Am hopeful the new scoring works fairly too.
Cameron and Greg got a 14 second I think.. Mike and Dolas got a 40 something. You can check out all the scores at the Great American Race website. I know our buddy Frank Currie won today with a 2 second. Pretty strong!
Spartanburg was a nice stop but somewhat anticlimactic after experiencing Concord.
Tomorrow is Sunday. We head to Chattanooga, by way of Maggie Valley, NC. We get to sleep in our own bed, see the great job daughter Casey and staff have done with our stop at Coker Tire and Honest Charley. I get to see Banjo the wonder dog too!
All for now! From the road,
