Chattanooga, Tenn. (June 2007) – On behalf of the Great American Race, Coker Tire Company is inviting everyone to join them on Sunday, July 1st as nearly 100 antique race cars make their way to Chattanooga. The Scenic City has been honored to host the 2nd stop in the 25th annual Great American Race, a timed endurance rally across America. “We encourage you to bring the whole family down to this free event and witness the cars as they take the checkered flag for the day,” says Corky Coker, president of Coker Tire.

The event will be held at the finish line, which will be setup on Chestnut Street at Coker Tire headquarters, located in Chattanooga’s historic South-side at 1317 Chestnut St. The event is absolutely free with plenty of free parking available at the stadium parking lot on Main Street. Festivities will begin at 4:00 p.m. and continue until 9:00 p.m. Racers will arrive to the finish line at 6:00 p.m. and an awards ceremony will be at 8:00 p.m. In addition to the exciting arrival of the racers, the event will feature a flag ceremony presented by our own local Boy Scout Troop #30, a car show presented by local car clubs, designated parking for motorcycles and classic cars and plenty of food and drink vendors will be available on Chestnut Street for event spectators. The Great American Race is a controlled, timed endurance rally across the United States featuring a stunning array of vintage automobiles. Not only will Great Race 2007 feature classic cars, but for the first time, muscle cars, hot rods (manufactured as late as 1969) and alternative-powered vehicles will participate in the same competition. The race will officially begin in Concord, NC on June 30, and will finish in Anaheim, California on July 14, 2007. For the past 25 years, Great Race has brought joy to fans across North America while helping create community involvement and free family entertainment at scheduled stops along the race route. Its participants have logged more than 9 million competitive miles, making the Great American Race the most exciting and longest-running motorsports competition for classic cars. Along with an assortment of vintage Model A Speedsters and Roadsters, spectators can also expect to see a 1916 Hudson Pikes Peak Hillclimber, a 1910 Selden Raceabout and a 1926 Peerless Speedster.
