It looks like folks say the Inaugural Coker Tire Challenge was a huge success! This past weekend (November 9-12) rally enthusiasts in collector cars and hot rods converged on Chattanooga and the surrounding area for a great time with great people doing what we love best…driving our cars! Car guys came from as far away as Oregon, California, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, New Mexico, New York, Florida, Georgia, and Virginia. The 40 entries rallied more than 575 miles of the back roads of East Tennessee, and North Georgia during the peak of the fall colors. Billy Cothern (GA) and John Williamson (TN) edged out Brian Gomez and Uli Kammholz for the overall win and the first prize check for $2590.00.
You can check out the Coker Tire Challenge official results at the Great Race Website. The pictures taken of the event are posted on http://www.cokertirechallenge.com.
There is a good article written by Hannah Campbell on the Chattanoogan. Two of the three local television stations covered the Challenge as well as our local paper, the Times Free Press. Click here to view their online article.
We had a great time hosting our friends and customers for the Coker Tire Challenge. It was a lot of work, but we all had fun! I give a lot of credit to my assistant, Crystal Wilson who coordinated the food n drink, the awards, the tents, and even the port-a-johns! BUT….she wasn’t alone in her efforts! Many of our employees from Coker Tire pitched in to make this first event a success. Thanks to all of our guys n gals who worked so hard! You are the best!

It was great fun to see everyone (especially the rookies) have a great time! Bill and Kay Coker in their 57 Chevy two door hardtop had a blast “hi-jacking” the car in front of them for a better score! John and Beth Coker were “fired up” daily piloting the red n white ’55 Chevy. They were pretty good too despite their lack of a credible speedometer! My Mom and Dad had fun telling stories at the end of the day like beating my son, Cameron (the 5 time Great Race veteran) the first day and then running out of gas the last day! Bob and Linda Coker from NC are always fun to be around! Casey and Cameron Coker had a great time together in Casey’s little bug-eye Sprite. It was fun to see Coker Tire machinist JD Scott and Honest Mike Goodman pilot the Double Exposure Deuce to a Third Place Rookie win!
We will be working on possible dates for the 2nd Coker Tire Challenge. Although the 2007 calendar is already full in Sept, October and November 2007 with lots of cool car things to do, we will choose wisely! Check back for updates. Until then….
Go fast, shift gears and LIVE RIGHT!
