Driven Dirty Tour - Day Minus One
At the 2005 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Dutch Fenical from Posies, Scott Whitaker from Dynamat and yours truly stirred up the idea of each building a new nostalgia style hot rod. The "brain trust" decided we would drive all the way to Las Vegas and display the cars with road dirt (bugs n all) at the SEMA Show in Nov 2006. The year passed quickly especially the past few weeks when we were all in crunch time mode by burning the candle at both ends to finish these cars!

My partner Honest Mike Goodman hisself put his whole being into building our hotrod. She’s called "Double Exposure". Several folks should be thanked for their commitment to gettin er done: Andrew Givens and J D Scott from Coker, the whole Honest gang, Pete n Jakes, Brookville, David Turner Paint n Body, Brian Papa Studios, Jerry Crawford Upholstery, Joe Abbin n Crew at Roadrunner, Vernon Walker of Walker Radiator, Chad Draper of Time Machines Unltd, Lokar, Autometer, Egge, and Posies. "Double Exposure" came together in 31 days thanks to Mike Goodman’s vision, organization n drive. He had the orig idea to double logo the car and the name "double exposure". I think he slept about two hours per night this last month!

Why is she called Double Exposure? First thing you see is that the car is naked! Bare Metal naked. The second thing to clue you in is the different numbers on drivers door n passenger door. "Since" 48 on driver’s and "since" 58 on passenger door. You see 1948 is the year Honest Charley was founded by Honest Hisself, Charley Card. Brian Papa hand lettered DE and did a masterful job on the period Honest Charley logo as well as the Daytona "pump gas" speed records in 1951, 52, and 53. Jacks n O’Guin are honored as builders of the speed record car.

Coker Tire’s founding in ‘58 is prominently represented on the passenger’s door just in front of the original ‘58 Coker Tire logo. The original Coker Crew is celebrated down the right cowl in front of the door…listed in order are: Pop Coker (my grand-dad), Harold Coker (my dad), "my uncle Bill Coker, and my uncle Bob Coker.
Joe Abbin built a killer supercharged flathead that dyno’s close to 300 hp’s! You can feel every one of those hoss’s when you rap the accel pedal! Dang it sounds sweet too! Don’t tell the cops between here n Vegas but she sings with absolutely no mufflers….straight pipes from headers to tail!
The tires? Of course they’re Cokers! We are running 820-15 Firestone (bigs) Grooved Rears and 500-15 Firestone (littles) ribbed fronts on gennies painted "petty blue"! Details! They matter! Don’t forget it!
We shot a few photos of "Double Exposure" two days ago. There’s one cool shot of Honest Mike n me straddling the front tires with our elbows on the grill shell…. arm wrestling like we couldn’t agree which company name to have on our hot rod. Truth is I got the best partner in the world and have never had the first disagreement with Honest Mike!
We are on our way up to Cincinnati now to start the "Driven Dirty" tour at the home of Dynamat. Scott Whitaker from Dynamat built a whole car version of his half cut-a-way three window coupe that started this whole deal. Steve Moal is driving a Brookville 32 roadster, Kenny from Brookville is driving a new Brookville 3 window 32 coupe, and Posie has built a 46 Chev highboy. I saw it during Hershey. Can’t wait to see it completely done. Travellin’ with us will be Brian Brennan from Street Rodder Magazine as well as world renowned hot rod authority, Ken Gross.
I will be sending in a daily update which should be posted on our blog first thing each morning.
I appreciate my sweet understanding wife for letting me go for two solid weeks doing car stuff. Theresa, you’re the best! And thanks to the Coker staff who keep Coker rolling whilst I’m on the road.
Tyrone Robinson will drop Mike n I off here in a couple of hours. We plan on driving this spankin’ new girl 1,948 miles to Las Vegas. (Dang..that’s Mike’s number not mine….should have lied and said it was 1,958 miles!) We’re doing it barefooted too. That’s corkyspeak for "no support"! Until tomorrow!
From the road,
Corky
